Narrative:

After completing the pre-takeoff checklist I asked for taxi clearance from the ground controller. Upon receiving that clearance, I was asked if I would be ready for an immediate takeoff and I replied with a positive answer. After reaching the 'hold short' line and performing the final checklist I asked and received a clearance from the tower to line up on the active runway and takeoff. After getting the clearance I repeated the call and reported: 'cessna XXX taking off runway 9L,' I got no response from the controller. In the middle of the takeoff roll the controller called me and said that he ordered me to hold short and wait (a call that I do not recall receiving). It seems that while I was taking off there was a piper seminole on final approach -- that plane was ordered to go around. I was ordered by the controller to turn immediately to crosswind and from that point on, the flight continued without any incidents. Contributing factors: pressure of the ground controller to be ready for takeoff because of other traffic. Failure by the pilot to observe for the right clearance (the controller was giving the clearance to another aircraft that lined up on a parallel runway and had a similar identify number). Failure by the controller to receive the readback from the pilot and to stop the pilot from lining up. Future actions -- what was learned: while holding short always stand the plane in (high wing) a 45 degree relative bearing to the runway, so you can scan the traffic pattern without interference, especially the final approach. Always repeat the clrncs given and announce your future actions before doing them. Be alert for clearance given for other planes in air and on the ground, especially if they carry a similar identify number. And above all: always be alert for very unusual events that might cause traffic conflicts! Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter is now instrument rated and is completing his commercial certificate. He states that same aircraft (cessna 152's) with similar sounding call signs (last 3 digits were the same) contributed to the incident. Reporter also has improved his english speaking ability since report was submitted. Reporter's instructor met with instructor (in piper seminole) that was issued go around clearance. Reporter was counseled on countermeasures to future error.

Title: PLT ACTED ON TKOF CLRNC FOR OTHER ACFT WITH SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGN.

Narrative: AFTER COMPLETING THE PRE-TKOF CHKLIST I ASKED FOR TAXI CLRNC FROM THE GND CTLR. UPON RECEIVING THAT CLRNC, I WAS ASKED IF I WOULD BE READY FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF AND I REPLIED WITH A POSITIVE ANSWER. AFTER REACHING THE 'HOLD SHORT' LINE AND PERFORMING THE FINAL CHKLIST I ASKED AND RECEIVED A CLRNC FROM THE TWR TO LINE UP ON THE ACTIVE RWY AND TKOF. AFTER GETTING THE CLRNC I REPEATED THE CALL AND RPTED: 'CESSNA XXX TAKING OFF RWY 9L,' I GOT NO RESPONSE FROM THE CTLR. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TKOF ROLL THE CTLR CALLED ME AND SAID THAT HE ORDERED ME TO HOLD SHORT AND WAIT (A CALL THAT I DO NOT RECALL RECEIVING). IT SEEMS THAT WHILE I WAS TAKING OFF THERE WAS A PIPER SEMINOLE ON FINAL APCH -- THAT PLANE WAS ORDERED TO GAR. I WAS ORDERED BY THE CTLR TO TURN IMMEDIATELY TO XWIND AND FROM THAT POINT ON, THE FLT CONTINUED WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: PRESSURE OF THE GND CTLR TO BE READY FOR TKOF BECAUSE OF OTHER TFC. FAILURE BY THE PLT TO OBSERVE FOR THE RIGHT CLRNC (THE CTLR WAS GIVING THE CLRNC TO ANOTHER ACFT THAT LINED UP ON A PARALLEL RWY AND HAD A SIMILAR IDENT NUMBER). FAILURE BY THE CTLR TO RECEIVE THE READBACK FROM THE PLT AND TO STOP THE PLT FROM LINING UP. FUTURE ACTIONS -- WHAT WAS LEARNED: WHILE HOLDING SHORT ALWAYS STAND THE PLANE IN (HIGH WING) A 45 DEG RELATIVE BEARING TO THE RWY, SO YOU CAN SCAN THE TFC PATTERN WITHOUT INTERFERENCE, ESPECIALLY THE FINAL APCH. ALWAYS REPEAT THE CLRNCS GIVEN AND ANNOUNCE YOUR FUTURE ACTIONS BEFORE DOING THEM. BE ALERT FOR CLRNC GIVEN FOR OTHER PLANES IN AIR AND ON THE GND, ESPECIALLY IF THEY CARRY A SIMILAR IDENT NUMBER. AND ABOVE ALL: ALWAYS BE ALERT FOR VERY UNUSUAL EVENTS THAT MIGHT CAUSE TFC CONFLICTS! CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR IS NOW INST RATED AND IS COMPLETING HIS COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE. HE STATES THAT SAME ACFT (CESSNA 152'S) WITH SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGNS (LAST 3 DIGITS WERE THE SAME) CONTRIBUTED TO THE INCIDENT. RPTR ALSO HAS IMPROVED HIS ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITY SINCE RPT WAS SUBMITTED. RPTR'S INSTRUCTOR MET WITH INSTRUCTOR (IN PIPER SEMINOLE) THAT WAS ISSUED GAR CLRNC. RPTR WAS COUNSELED ON COUNTERMEASURES TO FUTURE ERROR.
