Narrative:

While taxing on runway at gcm, controller read our clearance. With the strong accent, we both misunderstood the clearance and started up the wrong airway. Several factors were involved in the error. 1) this was my 3RD leg of IOE for requalification as dc-9 captain and I was under a high workload, 2) we have to back taxi on the active runway and while on the runway the controller read our clearance with a strong accent, 3) while I was taxiing the check captain copied the clearance. Even though I had trouble understanding the controller, I thought the check captain understood it. (I also thought that cuba restr us to 1 route). The controller said 'garbled as filed.' we were approximately 13 mi off course before the error was corrected.
