#1 oil pressure light came on. #1 oil quantity dropped to zero, #1 oil pressure dropped below limits. #1 engine shutdown per operations manual. Handled without incident at lga, the nearest suitable airport. 5 trucks were standing by. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter flies the B727-200 for a major united states air carrier. Maintenance told him that 'a seal gave way and the oil went out the back.' there was no damage. The 2 engine approach was not just like the simulator, 'the aircraft is always better than the simulator.'

Narrative: #1 OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. #1 OIL QUANTITY DROPPED TO ZERO, #1 OIL PRESSURE DROPPED BELOW LIMITS. #1 ENG SHUTDOWN PER OPS MANUAL. HANDLED WITHOUT INCIDENT AT LGA, THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT. 5 TRUCKS WERE STANDING BY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR FLIES THE B727-200 FOR A MAJOR UNITED STATES ACR. MAINT TOLD HIM THAT 'A SEAL GAVE WAY AND THE OIL WENT OUT THE BACK.' THERE WAS NO DAMAGE. THE 2 ENG APCH WAS NOT JUST LIKE THE SIMULATOR, 'THE ACFT IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE SIMULATOR.'
