Narrative:
Arrived into the oshkosh area on an IFR flight plan for the last day of the show aug/xx/95. Talking with ZAU, we broke out 3 or 4 mi east of wittman field and canceled IFR. Chicago told us to contact the tower and we switched over to the oshkosh frequency on a 3 mi final. The actual procedures in general during the show are to not transmit on the tower frequency unless asked, but instead to just follow directions. So when I was unable to talk with ATC due to frequency congestion I wasn't too concerned at first. We proceeded inbound and still the conversation between another plane and ATC continued. We actually flew about 3 mi and then finally landed on the runway without getting a word in edgewise. As we landed I realized that this couldn't be a very safe procedure and that I should have just 'forced' in a transmission, even if on top of the other pilot. Contributing was the pressure to cancel IFR by chicago, although not their fault, and trying to get the plane down from a high and fast approach without tearing it up, or something else even more stupid than not communicating as well as I should.

Title: PLT OF A PVT SMA LANDS WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: ARRIVED INTO THE OSHKOSH AREA ON AN IFR FLT PLAN FOR THE LAST DAY OF THE SHOW AUG/XX/95. TALKING WITH ZAU, WE BROKE OUT 3 OR 4 MI E OF WITTMAN FIELD AND CANCELED IFR. CHICAGO TOLD US TO CONTACT THE TWR AND WE SWITCHED OVER TO THE OSHKOSH FREQ ON A 3 MI FINAL. THE ACTUAL PROCS IN GENERAL DURING THE SHOW ARE TO NOT XMIT ON THE TWR FREQ UNLESS ASKED, BUT INSTEAD TO JUST FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. SO WHEN I WAS UNABLE TO TALK WITH ATC DUE TO FREQ CONGESTION I WASN'T TOO CONCERNED AT FIRST. WE PROCEEDED INBOUND AND STILL THE CONVERSATION BTWN ANOTHER PLANE AND ATC CONTINUED. WE ACTUALLY FLEW ABOUT 3 MI AND THEN FINALLY LANDED ON THE RWY WITHOUT GETTING A WORD IN EDGEWISE. AS WE LANDED I REALIZED THAT THIS COULDN'T BE A VERY SAFE PROC AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE JUST 'FORCED' IN A XMISSION, EVEN IF ON TOP OF THE OTHER PLT. CONTRIBUTING WAS THE PRESSURE TO CANCEL IFR BY CHICAGO, ALTHOUGH NOT THEIR FAULT, AND TRYING TO GET THE PLANE DOWN FROM A HIGH AND FAST APCH WITHOUT TEARING IT UP, OR SOMETHING ELSE EVEN MORE STUPID THAN NOT COMMUNICATING AS WELL AS I SHOULD.
