Narrative:
After obtaining local ATIS information, ground control was contacted to obtain VFR clearance for short (34 SM) flight to home base. Ground control was provided with location on airport, request to go to pvw at 5000 ft MSL. Ground control issued departure frequency, squawk for transponder and runway for departure. Aircraft was taxied to active runway (35L) at intersection F. No other aircraft movement was noted on ground in vicinity of my aircraft and no runways were crossed. While doing run-up, ground asked for location on airport. When I responded, they told me they had not issued taxi instructions. To prevent recurrence this pilot plans to be more specific in requesting taxi instructions. Ground control could also issue taxi instructions or clearance at same time that clearance instructions are issued for the flight -- pilot could then decline if not ready to taxi.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN SMA SEL TAXIED WITHOUT CLRNC INSTRUCTIONS.
Narrative: AFTER OBTAINING LCL ATIS INFO, GND CTL WAS CONTACTED TO OBTAIN VFR CLRNC FOR SHORT (34 SM) FLT TO HOME BASE. GND CTL WAS PROVIDED WITH LOCATION ON ARPT, REQUEST TO GO TO PVW AT 5000 FT MSL. GND CTL ISSUED DEP FREQ, SQUAWK FOR XPONDER AND RWY FOR DEP. ACFT WAS TAXIED TO ACTIVE RWY (35L) AT INTXN F. NO OTHER ACFT MOVEMENT WAS NOTED ON GND IN VICINITY OF MY ACFT AND NO RWYS WERE CROSSED. WHILE DOING RUN-UP, GND ASKED FOR LOCATION ON ARPT. WHEN I RESPONDED, THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD NOT ISSUED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. TO PREVENT RECURRENCE THIS PLT PLANS TO BE MORE SPECIFIC IN REQUESTING TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. GND CTL COULD ALSO ISSUE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS OR CLRNC AT SAME TIME THAT CLRNC INSTRUCTIONS ARE ISSUED FOR THE FLT -- PLT COULD THEN DECLINE IF NOT READY TO TAXI.
