Narrative:
As we were taxiing out of the FBO ramp area at ewr, we called ground control for taxi instructions. ATC warned us that we were already on an active taxiway. It appeared to us that we were still on the ramp. We did not see any taxi signs that would have indicated to us that we were on a taxiway. We did not cause any traffic conflicts. This situation could have been prevented if the txwys were more clearly marked.

Title: UNAUTH TAXI. ATX DEPARTS THE RAMP AREA WITHOUT A CLRNC AND LATER CONTACTS THE GND CTLR FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WHILE ON THE TXWY.
Narrative: AS WE WERE TAXIING OUT OF THE FBO RAMP AREA AT EWR, WE CALLED GND CTL FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. ATC WARNED US THAT WE WERE ALREADY ON AN ACTIVE TXWY. IT APPEARED TO US THAT WE WERE STILL ON THE RAMP. WE DID NOT SEE ANY TAXI SIGNS THAT WOULD HAVE INDICATED TO US THAT WE WERE ON A TXWY. WE DID NOT CAUSE ANY TFC CONFLICTS. THIS SIT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THE TXWYS WERE MORE CLRLY MARKED.
