Narrative:

While on approach to flg we failed to receive a landing clearance prior to landing. After leaving ZAB and being cleared for the visual approach to runway 3, we contacted flg tower and reported 10 mi south for the visual. The tower asked us to report a 4 mi final. At about 6 mi, the left cockpit window came unsealed making a loud hissing noise. The distraction caused us to forget to report the 4 mi final. We landed without receiving landing clearance. We subsequently wrote up the window for a maintenance action. The hinge was found to be cracked and was replaced. The mechanic advised us that the aluminum hinges crack from being opened too far. They are very weak and are a continuing problem with the beech 1900D model airplane.
