In sum: mechanic and partner are assigned a task on MD83 nearing shift change. They were told the paperwork associated with the task would be at the gate with the airplane. The paperwork and instructions were not at the gate as promised. The mechanic and partner attempted to accomplish the task without the required paperwork. The task was accomplished improperly. The airplane was damaged.

Title: MECH AND PARTNER REPAIR MD83 WITHOUT BENEFIT OF APPROPRIATE INSTRUCTIONS AND PAPERWORK.

Narrative: IN SUM: MECH AND PARTNER ARE ASSIGNED A TASK ON MD83 NEARING SHIFT CHANGE. THEY WERE TOLD THE PAPERWORK ASSOCIATED WITH THE TASK WOULD BE AT THE GATE WITH THE AIRPLANE. THE PAPERWORK AND INSTRUCTIONS WERE NOT AT THE GATE AS PROMISED. THE MECH AND PARTNER ATTEMPTED TO ACCOMPLISH THE TASK WITHOUT THE REQUIRED PAPERWORK. THE TASK WAS ACCOMPLISHED IMPROPERLY. THE AIRPLANE WAS DAMAGED.
