Narrative:
ZFW asked us to cross 50 mi northwest of bridgeport at FL240 and to begin the descent now. The descent commenced and a fix was typed into the CDU adding the altitude crossing restr at 50 NM. We then concentrated our attention on an aircraft write-up. A few mi short of the crossing restr, center asked if we were able to meet FL240 as requested. We discovered a typing error in the CDU which did not correspond to 50 NM. We acknowledged we could not meet the altitude restr by 50 NM and requested a vector off course if necessary. Center told us to expedite the descent as much as possible.
