Narrative:
On vectors to runway 18R in mco, approach cleared us to 2500 ft. We were then cleared to intercept the localizer and report the airport. We thought that we were cleared for the approach. After intercepting the localizer we started to follow the GS and called the airport in sight. Approach then told us to maintain 2500 ft until passing orl VOR, cleared for the visual approach. We realized our mistake as we crossed the VOR at 2300 ft.

Title: ALTDEV ALT EXCURSION. NON ADHERENCE TO ATC CLRNC INSTRUCTION ON AN APCH TO MCO RWY 18R.
Narrative: ON VECTORS TO RWY 18R IN MCO, APCH CLRED US TO 2500 FT. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO INTERCEPT THE LOC AND RPT THE ARPT. WE THOUGHT THAT WE WERE CLRED FOR THE APCH. AFTER INTERCEPTING THE LOC WE STARTED TO FOLLOW THE GS AND CALLED THE ARPT IN SIGHT. APCH THEN TOLD US TO MAINTAIN 2500 FT UNTIL PASSING ORL VOR, CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH. WE REALIZED OUR MISTAKE AS WE CROSSED THE VOR AT 2300 FT.
