Narrative:
We were cleared to descend to pick up GS to 36R, I don't remember the altitude, but somewhere below 3000 ft MSL as we were about to intercept GS 36R, the TCASII gave a TA, then an RA. I climbed as per the RA. When we were clear of conflict, I re-intercepted GS, I probably climbed about 500 ft. The copilot was flying the aircraft until the RA. It was his second trip in the airplane and a little slow to react, so I took control until the 'clear of conflict' call. ATC said they had control of all aircraft in our area and that no one was closer than 500 ft vertically. The TCASII indicated the intruder at 200 ft. I was unable to locate the traffic visually, even though I was in the clear at this point with the runway in sight. This RA may have been erroneous. TCASII is turning into a real nuisance. 2-MAN crews are busy enough in the terminal area without all the distrs that TCASII causes in the cockpit.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ALTDEV ALT EXCURSION IN A NON ADHERENCE TO AN ATC CLRNC INSTRUCTION DUE TO TCASII RA.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO DSND TO PICK UP GS TO 36R, I DON'T REMEMBER THE ALT, BUT SOMEWHERE BELOW 3000 FT MSL AS WE WERE ABOUT TO INTERCEPT GS 36R, THE TCASII GAVE A TA, THEN AN RA. I CLBED AS PER THE RA. WHEN WE WERE CLR OF CONFLICT, I RE-INTERCEPTED GS, I PROBABLY CLBED ABOUT 500 FT. THE COPLT WAS FLYING THE ACFT UNTIL THE RA. IT WAS HIS SECOND TRIP IN THE AIRPLANE AND A LITTLE SLOW TO REACT, SO I TOOK CTL UNTIL THE 'CLR OF CONFLICT' CALL. ATC SAID THEY HAD CTL OF ALL ACFT IN OUR AREA AND THAT NO ONE WAS CLOSER THAN 500 FT VERTICALLY. THE TCASII INDICATED THE INTRUDER AT 200 FT. I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE TFC VISUALLY, EVEN THOUGH I WAS IN THE CLR AT THIS POINT WITH THE RWY IN SIGHT. THIS RA MAY HAVE BEEN ERRONEOUS. TCASII IS TURNING INTO A REAL NUISANCE. 2-MAN CREWS ARE BUSY ENOUGH IN THE TERMINAL AREA WITHOUT ALL THE DISTRS THAT TCASII CAUSES IN THE COCKPIT.
