Narrative:
I was cleared to land at hgr on runway 27. After landing tower requested us to make right hand exit off active runway at first intersection. As I was making right hand turn off of active runway I noticed that I was turning onto the intersecting runway. I became confused, came back on active to exit at next taxiway. Once re-entered on active, tower cleared aircraft for takeoff. Tower then had aircraft abort takeoff and ordered me to call the tower. I realized at that time that I had made a serious error. The controller was very polite to me over the phone and explained to me the possible consequences of my action. I have since reviewed the aim paragraph 4-70 (4-3-12) on procedures for exiting the runway after landing. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that he was quite surprised when he referenced the aim and found that it was ok to taxi onto a runway if controller issued such a clearance. There has been no FAA follow up on this incident.

Title: SMA PLT CLRED TO TURN AT NEXT INTXN. HE DOES SO BUT FINDS IT IS A RWY AND TURNS BACK ONTO THE RWY HE TURNED OFF OF.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO LAND AT HGR ON RWY 27. AFTER LNDG TWR REQUESTED US TO MAKE R HAND EXIT OFF ACTIVE RWY AT FIRST INTXN. AS I WAS MAKING R HAND TURN OFF OF ACTIVE RWY I NOTICED THAT I WAS TURNING ONTO THE INTERSECTING RWY. I BECAME CONFUSED, CAME BACK ON ACTIVE TO EXIT AT NEXT TXWY. ONCE RE-ENTERED ON ACTIVE, TWR CLRED ACFT FOR TKOF. TWR THEN HAD ACFT ABORT TKOF AND ORDERED ME TO CALL THE TWR. I REALIZED AT THAT TIME THAT I HAD MADE A SERIOUS ERROR. THE CTLR WAS VERY POLITE TO ME OVER THE PHONE AND EXPLAINED TO ME THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES OF MY ACTION. I HAVE SINCE REVIEWED THE AIM PARAGRAPH 4-70 (4-3-12) ON PROCS FOR EXITING THE RWY AFTER LNDG. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT HE WAS QUITE SURPRISED WHEN HE REFED THE AIM AND FOUND THAT IT WAS OK TO TAXI ONTO A RWY IF CTLR ISSUED SUCH A CLRNC. THERE HAS BEEN NO FAA FOLLOW UP ON THIS INCIDENT.
