Narrative:
En route the #1 flight attendant informed me a passenger was hitting people, flight attendants and throwing food. I advised passenger if he continued his actions I would handcuff him and he would be arrested. I returned to the cockpit, a few mins later he was again verbally and physically abusive. For the safety of my crew and passenger I found it necessary to secure passenger to his seat. With 3 male flight attendants, we were able to accomplish this. I requested the fbi and police to meet our flight and continued to miami. I was fortunate to have such a great crew. I recommend that capts check their flexcuffs, my cuffs broke into several sections as I attempted to use them. Also I was informed sea had trouble with the same passenger but did not discuss it with me, inform the captain. The stations have to be reminded the captain is responsible for the whole aircraft.
