Narrative:

Lost generator after takeoff, returned overweight. 30 mins after takeoff lost #1 generator. Reset once but it failed after a few mins. We were at FL330 and tried to start the APU, but it would not start. We diverted back to mia and asked for a lower altitude to start the APU. We tried to start at FL200, 16000 ft and 7000 ft without success. Since we had about 10000 ft of undercast to go through on one generator, I declared an emergency. I also descended at 320 KTS to 7000 ft to get out of the clouds as fast as possible. We did not break out until 4500 ft. We did not ask for the equipment. We did land at 321500 pounds with a 250 FPM sink rate and a soft landing.
