Narrative:
While flying VFR, got into IMC at 1000 ft AGL. Climbed to 14500 ft, attempting to get on top and return to VFR. Contacted fresno approach at 14500 ft and requested VOR approach to visalia (got WX current at visalia -- supposedly ceiling at 3000 ft AGL, was actually 900 ft). Landed at visalia.

Title: PLT OF AN SMT TWIN ON VFR FLT FLEW INTO IMC AT 1000 FT AND CLBED TO 14500 FT WITHOUT REACHING VFR. PLT REQUESTED AN ATC CLRNC TO THE NEAREST VFR ARPT AND CAME OUT SAFELY.
Narrative: WHILE FLYING VFR, GOT INTO IMC AT 1000 FT AGL. CLBED TO 14500 FT, ATTEMPTING TO GET ON TOP AND RETURN TO VFR. CONTACTED FRESNO APCH AT 14500 FT AND REQUESTED VOR APCH TO VISALIA (GOT WX CURRENT AT VISALIA -- SUPPOSEDLY CEILING AT 3000 FT AGL, WAS ACTUALLY 900 FT). LANDED AT VISALIA.
