Narrative:
Departing las, ground control instructed us to taxi to runway 25R. Contacted tower on taxiway B and only after we were approaching the hold short line for full length did that controller advise us that full length was notamed as only available with prior permission. He then cleared us for takeoff utilizing the full length. Both the first officer and I thought it odd that information pertaining to operations on an active runway would not be broadcast on the ATIS (regardless of wherever else it might be posted) but it wasn't. ATIS information is very timely and would, therefore, most probably obviate any need for later notification -- regardless of any possible reasons it might otherwise become necessary.

Title: MLG FLC DID NOT CHK NOTAMS AND TAXIED TO FULL LENGTH OF RWY FOR TKOF.
Narrative: DEPARTING LAS, GND CTL INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI TO RWY 25R. CONTACTED TWR ON TXWY B AND ONLY AFTER WE WERE APCHING THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR FULL LENGTH DID THAT CTLR ADVISE US THAT FULL LENGTH WAS NOTAMED AS ONLY AVAILABLE WITH PRIOR PERMISSION. HE THEN CLRED US FOR TKOF UTILIZING THE FULL LENGTH. BOTH THE FO AND I THOUGHT IT ODD THAT INFO PERTAINING TO OPS ON AN ACTIVE RWY WOULD NOT BE BROADCAST ON THE ATIS (REGARDLESS OF WHEREVER ELSE IT MIGHT BE POSTED) BUT IT WASN'T. ATIS INFO IS VERY TIMELY AND WOULD, THEREFORE, MOST PROBABLY OBVIATE ANY NEED FOR LATER NOTIFICATION -- REGARDLESS OF ANY POSSIBLE REASONS IT MIGHT OTHERWISE BECOME NECESSARY.
