Narrative:

The captain was feeling the same as me, hungry and not looking forward to another crew meal. We planned on deplaning to purchase food. The scheduled time on the ground was 1 hour 5 mins, but we were late to the gate and ended with only 48 mins. We knew we didn't have much time and rushed the shutdown checklist. Normally, the checklist is a first officer read/captain responds checklist, but to hasten deplaning, I read and responded and missed the fact that the #1 engine was not shut down. As a result, both captain and myself deplaned with the #1 engine still running. I was gone approximately 4 mins when someone said an engine was still running at our gate. It took approximately 1 min to return to the cockpit. Meanwhile, a maintenance supervisor had shut down the engine. Besides great embarrassment and relief no one was injured, I still wonder how I could have done something so dumb. It reinforces what I already knew: a read and respond checklist (2 person) is to ensure items are completed. I can't assume someone will perform an item even though they performed it at the same time and place for 20 yrs. We were lucky no one was injured or aircraft damaged.

Title: AN ACR FLC HURRIEDLY DEPARTS THE ACFT DURING A TURN AROUND TO OBTAIN FOOD AND FORGOT TO SHUT DOWN THE #1 ENG.

Narrative: THE CAPT WAS FEELING THE SAME AS ME, HUNGRY AND NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER CREW MEAL. WE PLANNED ON DEPLANING TO PURCHASE FOOD. THE SCHEDULED TIME ON THE GND WAS 1 HR 5 MINS, BUT WE WERE LATE TO THE GATE AND ENDED WITH ONLY 48 MINS. WE KNEW WE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME AND RUSHED THE SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. NORMALLY, THE CHKLIST IS A FO READ/CAPT RESPONDS CHKLIST, BUT TO HASTEN DEPLANING, I READ AND RESPONDED AND MISSED THE FACT THAT THE #1 ENG WAS NOT SHUT DOWN. AS A RESULT, BOTH CAPT AND MYSELF DEPLANED WITH THE #1 ENG STILL RUNNING. I WAS GONE APPROX 4 MINS WHEN SOMEONE SAID AN ENG WAS STILL RUNNING AT OUR GATE. IT TOOK APPROX 1 MIN TO RETURN TO THE COCKPIT. MEANWHILE, A MAINT SUPVR HAD SHUT DOWN THE ENG. BESIDES GREAT EMBARRASSMENT AND RELIEF NO ONE WAS INJURED, I STILL WONDER HOW I COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING SO DUMB. IT REINFORCES WHAT I ALREADY KNEW: A READ AND RESPOND CHKLIST (2 PERSON) IS TO ENSURE ITEMS ARE COMPLETED. I CAN'T ASSUME SOMEONE WILL PERFORM AN ITEM EVEN THOUGH THEY PERFORMED IT AT THE SAME TIME AND PLACE FOR 20 YRS. WE WERE LUCKY NO ONE WAS INJURED OR ACFT DAMAGED.
