Narrative:
Location, maced intersection couger 5 arrival. We were over maced intersection and heard the approach controller tell us to fly heading 085 degrees and descend to 6000 ft. I read back, 'fly heading 085 degrees now and descend to 6000 ft,' and there was no response from the controller. After a few mins on the 085 degree heading, he told us, 'that was 085 degree heading after banty intersection,' and cleared us direct to banty.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THOUGH THE RPTR CAPT MISUNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC GIVEN AND TURNED TO THE HDG GIVEN BY ATC, THE CTLR DIDN'T RESPOND TO THE READBACK. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN A CLRNC TO TURN TO A HDG IS GIVEN BY ATC, IT MEANS TO TURN NOW, SO IT WAS EASY TO MISUNDERSTAND CLRNC. THE CTLR SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE READBACK.
Narrative: LOCATION, MACED INTXN COUGER 5 ARR. WE WERE OVER MACED INTXN AND HEARD THE APCH CTLR TELL US TO FLY HDG 085 DEGS AND DSND TO 6000 FT. I READ BACK, 'FLY HDG 085 DEGS NOW AND DSND TO 6000 FT,' AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE CTLR. AFTER A FEW MINS ON THE 085 DEG HDG, HE TOLD US, 'THAT WAS 085 DEG HDG AFTER BANTY INTXN,' AND CLRED US DIRECT TO BANTY.
