Narrative:
Before departing teller airport 45 mi northwest of nome I called fairbank's flight service. The WX in nome was VFR with moderate turbulence. While crossing the mountains the plane encountered a 200 FPM descent. I pulled back on the yoke and lost 15 KTS and the vsi returned to neutral position. Shortly after, the vsi returned to 500 FPM or more down, while applying full throttle, propeller, and mixture at the same time. The plane never recovered and a forced landing was made 14 mi west of nome. Pilot was not injured and passenger had minor injuries.
