Narrative:

Ceiling and visibility unlimited. ZDC gave us a vector off airway (J-24), a heading to cho and descent to 11000 ft and told us to call the airport. I saw shenandoah regional and thinking it was cho, asked ZDC for lower. Center gave us 6000 ft and we called the field in sight (shenandoah). I was surprised that we came upon it so soon and we began to extend gear and flaps and slow for maximum drag descent to make the field. During this time we are both 'in the cockpit' finishing checklists. We're about 5-10 mi south of shenandoah and cho tower has cleared us to land (at cho). We inquire with tower if azalea park is up (NDB). Cho tower, ZDC and cockpit crew realize at the same time my mistake. We wave off the approach, clean up and fly over the hill to cho. Ceiling and visibility unlimited. We are given a heading to airport off airway (J-24) so we didn't fly over montebello VOR. Last two legs on a 4 day trip. When I saw shenandoah and realized we were high, we became task saturated to dirty up and get down and finish checklists. I was not aware shenandoah regional existed one valley west of cho. Gordonville VOR inoperative. Navaids didn't match up and field didn't look like cho.

Title: ON OFF AIRWAY VECTOR, CTR TOLD FLC TO RPT ARPT IN SIGHT. THEY SAW AN ARPT, AND THINKING IT WAS CHO, CALLED FIELD IN SIGHT AND CONCENTRATED ON GETTING DOWN AND PREPARATION FOR LNDG. AFTER RECEIVING CLRNC FROM CHO TWR, THE FLC AND CTLRS REALIZED THEY WERE HEADING FOR SHD. THEY DID A MISSED APCH AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY AT CHO.
