Narrative:

I am an instructor. Training session started at XA00. Prebrief for 2 pilots preparing for recurrent chkrides (both capts) lasted until XD30. I anticipated the flts lasting 2 hours each. We actually finished at XJ00. For the last 1 1/2 hours of flying, we were well within 10 NM of the airport doing practice instrument and at the end, visual approachs. When we landed for the last time the fuel on board was approximately 1600 pounds. This equates to nearly 1 1/2 hours of fuel. However, 1000 pounds was unusable due to a landing weight limitation. I therefore landed with 600 pounds of usable fuel. This is less than required for an IFR flight plan. I compounded the error by noting the fuel burn incorrectly on the aircraft logs by 600 pounds (too little). I attribute the mistakes to my own fatigue and to being excessively eager to ensure the 2 capts were prepared for their chkrides and not keeping in mind aircraft limitations and flight plan fuel requirements. There was never an issue of safety because we were always so close to the airport. I am going to balance the needs of my students with better thought for the particulars of the training flight in future.

Title: DO328 ACFT ON TRAINING FLT FOR NEW CAPTS. RPTR CAPT INSTRUCTOR BECAME INVOLVED IN CONCENTRATED TRAINING AND FLT RAN 6 HRS LONGER THAN HE HAD ANTICIPATED. AFTER LNDG HE REALIZED THERE WAS ONLY 600 LBS OF USABLE FUEL REMAINING. RPTR ALSO ENTERED INCORRECT FUEL BLOCK NUMBER ON ACFT LOG. RPTR SAYS HE WAS FATIGUED AND EXCESSIVELY EAGER TO ENSURE THE NEW CAPTS WERE PREPARED FOR THEIR CHKRIDE.

WE ACTUALLY FINISHED AT XJ00. FOR THE LAST 1 1/2 HRS OF FLYING, WE WERE WELL WITHIN 10 NM OF THE ARPT DOING PRACTICE INST AND AT THE END, VISUAL APCHS. WHEN WE LANDED FOR THE LAST TIME THE FUEL ON BOARD WAS APPROX 1600 LBS. THIS EQUATES TO NEARLY 1 1/2 HRS OF FUEL. HOWEVER, 1000 LBS WAS UNUSABLE DUE TO A LNDG WT LIMITATION. I THEREFORE LANDED WITH 600 LBS OF USABLE FUEL. THIS IS LESS THAN REQUIRED FOR AN IFR FLT PLAN. I COMPOUNDED THE ERROR BY NOTING THE FUEL BURN INCORRECTLY ON THE ACFT LOGS BY 600 LBS (TOO LITTLE).
