After takeoff power was applied all engines spooled up properly. Then, suddenly #1 engine failed due to failure of the engine driven fuel pump. The captain aborted takeoff on runway 13 at lga. The abort occurred at less than 40 KTS. There were no control problems and no need for emergency equipment. The aircraft cleared the runway without incident.
