Narrative:
While in the pattern, 2 aircraft got clrncs to land, but no order of traffic was given to either of the pilots about the other. So both aircraft flew toward runway 17R and both pilots had to call the tower to find out who had the right to the runway. So the aircraft were close and this could have caused a problem if the pilots hadn't seen each other.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A STUDENT PLT RPTS THAT NEITHER HE OR ANOTHER CONFLICTING ACFT HAD BEEN ISSUED A LNDG SEQUENCE WHEN GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND. THE PLTS OF BOTH ACFT QUERIED CTLR WHEN THEY DISCOVERED THAT THEY WERE APCHING THE SAME RWY.
