Narrative:
As the captain, I was hand flying the CYY1 arrival to mia. At approximately 26 DME east of cyy, ATC cleared us from FL220 to cross the worpp intersection (46 DME) at 10000 ft at 210 KTS. I had the first officer advise ATC we were unable to comply. ATC then gave us a right turn 170 degree vectors for descent. This placed us on course for strong thunderstorms to the south. In attempting to avoid the WX we advised ATC we needed a turn and were given a left turn to 060 degrees. Because of the intensity of WX I initiated a 40 degree bank turn. While in the turn we entered the edge of a cell. With the associated heavy precipitation, mod turbulence, bank angle and high rate of descent, I was unable to stop the descent at 10000 ft and deviated to approximately 9600 ft before returning to 10000 ft. No mention from ATC about loss of separation. Flight continued to a normal landing.

Narrative: AS THE CAPT, I WAS HAND FLYING THE CYY1 ARR TO MIA. AT APPROX 26 DME E OF CYY, ATC CLRED US FROM FL220 TO CROSS THE WORPP INTXN (46 DME) AT 10000 FT AT 210 KTS. I HAD THE FO ADVISE ATC WE WERE UNABLE TO COMPLY. ATC THEN GAVE US A R TURN 170 DEG VECTORS FOR DSCNT. THIS PLACED US ON COURSE FOR STRONG TSTMS TO THE S. IN ATTEMPTING TO AVOID THE WX WE ADVISED ATC WE NEEDED A TURN AND WERE GIVEN A L TURN TO 060 DEGS. BECAUSE OF THE INTENSITY OF WX I INITIATED A 40 DEG BANK TURN. WHILE IN THE TURN WE ENTERED THE EDGE OF A CELL. WITH THE ASSOCIATED HVY PRECIP, MOD TURBULENCE, BANK ANGLE AND HIGH RATE OF DSCNT, I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE DSCNT AT 10000 FT AND DEVIATED TO APPROX 9600 FT BEFORE RETURNING TO 10000 FT. NO MENTION FROM ATC ABOUT LOSS OF SEPARATION. FLT CONTINUED TO A NORMAL LNDG.
