Narrative:

On may/xx/96 I became aware that X and Y, both PA28- 161's, had overflown airworthiness directive. In the case of X, the overflt was 7.8 hours time in service and in the case of Y, the overflt was 55.9 hours. As soon as I became aware of the overdue airworthiness directive, the airplane was grounded until compliance was assured. This situation can be avoided in the future as our maintenance contractor complies with the requirement in our progressive inspection procedures to research all airworthiness directives prior to return to service. Upon compliance with the airworthiness directive, the aircraft parts in question were found to meet the requirements of the airworthiness directive without further maintenance.
