Narrative:
Rotating beacon at stockton metropolitan airport has been OTS since may/tue/96. Callback conversation with facility manager revealed the following information: analyst talked with the facility manager and was told the rotating beacon is currently OTS due to asbestos abatement in the control tower where the switch to the beacon is located. He stated that it was decided to turn the beacon off, rather than have it operate 24 hours a day and possibly cause some confusion during daylight hours which would indicate the airport as being IFR. According to the facility manager, the beacon will remain OTS until completion of the asbestos work while the beacon is physically moved from its present location (water tower) and placed on top of the tower cabin attendant. He indicated it would be over a month before the beacon is returned to service.

Title: ARPT ROTATING BEACON OTS.
Narrative: ROTATING BEACON AT STOCKTON METRO ARPT HAS BEEN OTS SINCE MAY/TUE/96. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH FACILITY MGR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: ANALYST TALKED WITH THE FACILITY MGR AND WAS TOLD THE ROTATING BEACON IS CURRENTLY OTS DUE TO ASBESTOS ABATEMENT IN THE CTL TWR WHERE THE SWITCH TO THE BEACON IS LOCATED. HE STATED THAT IT WAS DECIDED TO TURN THE BEACON OFF, RATHER THAN HAVE IT OPERATE 24 HRS A DAY AND POSSIBLY CAUSE SOME CONFUSION DURING DAYLIGHT HRS WHICH WOULD INDICATE THE ARPT AS BEING IFR. ACCORDING TO THE FACILITY MGR, THE BEACON WILL REMAIN OTS UNTIL COMPLETION OF THE ASBESTOS WORK WHILE THE BEACON IS PHYSICALLY MOVED FROM ITS PRESENT LOCATION (WATER TWR) AND PLACED ON TOP OF THE TWR CAB. HE INDICATED IT WOULD BE OVER A MONTH BEFORE THE BEACON IS RETURNED TO SVC.
