Narrative:
On a flight, VFR, from lot to lake lawn direct, on jun/sat/96, a fellow pilot received WX for a direct flight to lake lawn airport. VFR WX and NOTAMS were issued. (None on the closure of lake in the hills airport). I tracked the dpg VOR outbound to lake lawn lodge. En route I passed lake in the hills airport and chose to attempt to descend from 2500 ft MSL to the airport (distance approximately 3-4 mi). Upon initial contact via unicom, I was told to depart because airport was closed for airshow. I immediately departed wbound and proceeded to lake lawn lodge. Judgement was missed by not filing current VFR flight plan. Improvements: 1) file VFR flight plan, 2) perhaps listing closure on ATIS, etc (none on dpg ATIS).
