Narrative:
I was the PNF on our departure from cle. The tower told us to maintain runway heading. The brand new first officer was making the takeoff. He had just completed 100 hours in the aircraft. Upon rotation, the heading started to drift to the right. We ended up 30 degrees off of the runway heading. When we switched over to departure control, he questioned if we were given a heading from the tower. We told him that we were given runway heading. He then gave us a heading to continue on course. Our company has hired people from within the company. Some of these people have very low time and none in any high performance aircraft. Their flying skills aren't very good. So the capts really have to watch them all the time. I don't think the airline should hire these people. There are a lot of highly qualified people on the street.
