Narrative:

We were on the extol arrival into lga. We were given a clearance to go direct to an intersection and cross at 9000 ft. This required a descent of approximately 2000 FPM. As we approached the intersection, I instructed the copilot to call the FBO to see if the transportation was there for our passenger. While he was doing that, I was concentrating on crossing the fix at 9000 ft. Upon reaching the fix, I forgot which way I was to turn to stay on the arrival. The book with the arrival was not immediately available. I started to turn right until we found the arrival. Upon finding it, we saw we would have to turn back left to intercept. Upon reaching an intercept heading, I was informed by approach I was 4.5 to 5 mi south of course. My VOR needle indicated one half DOT south of course at 37 DME. We were into our 7TH flight hour of the day and we had been overutilized for the previous 2 or 3 weeks. There is no question in my mind this situation occurred from overwork, being tired, an inability to concentrate due to the previous days of excessive duty, and the stressful environment we were entering.

Title: THE PF TURNED THE WRONG WAY DURING DSCNT ON A STAR BECAUSE THE ARR WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO REF. THE PNF WAS OFF FREQ TO CHK ARRANGEMENTS AT THE DEST. THE CREW WAS UNABLE TO CONCENTRATE DUE TO FATIGUE AND STRESS.

Narrative: WE WERE ON THE EXTOL ARR INTO LGA. WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO GO DIRECT TO AN INTXN AND CROSS AT 9000 FT. THIS REQUIRED A DSCNT OF APPROX 2000 FPM. AS WE APCHED THE INTXN, I INSTRUCTED THE COPLT TO CALL THE FBO TO SEE IF THE TRANSPORTATION WAS THERE FOR OUR PAX. WHILE HE WAS DOING THAT, I WAS CONCENTRATING ON XING THE FIX AT 9000 FT. UPON REACHING THE FIX, I FORGOT WHICH WAY I WAS TO TURN TO STAY ON THE ARR. THE BOOK WITH THE ARR WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE. I STARTED TO TURN R UNTIL WE FOUND THE ARR. UPON FINDING IT, WE SAW WE WOULD HAVE TO TURN BACK L TO INTERCEPT. UPON REACHING AN INTERCEPT HDG, I WAS INFORMED BY APCH I WAS 4.5 TO 5 MI S OF COURSE. MY VOR NEEDLE INDICATED ONE HALF DOT S OF COURSE AT 37 DME. WE WERE INTO OUR 7TH FLT HR OF THE DAY AND WE HAD BEEN OVERUTILIZED FOR THE PREVIOUS 2 OR 3 WKS. THERE IS NO QUESTION IN MY MIND THIS SIT OCCURRED FROM OVERWORK, BEING TIRED, AN INABILITY TO CONCENTRATE DUE TO THE PREVIOUS DAYS OF EXCESSIVE DUTY, AND THE STRESSFUL ENVIRONMENT WE WERE ENTERING.
