Narrative:
Received call from mid cabin, cabin attendant advising that there had been smoke and fumes from a galley oven, that a fire extinguisher had been fired, and that there seemed to be no further occurrence. Both utility busses were turned off and galley fire procedure was accomplished. I requested my first officer (relief) to inspect the oven and report back. He stated that the source appeared to be foil and plastic in the oven near exhaust ducting and that there appeared to be no likelihood of recurrence without a heat source. After a discussion with both first officer's and the chief purser, we placed inoperative stickers on oven controls and briefed all cabin attendants to keep an eye on the area and not to attempt to use the oven. Maintenance and dispatch were notified and we continued to iad without further incident.
