Narrative:
During cruise flight through brest control airspace there was a delay in receiving oceanic clearance. Brest had cleared the flight to the sivir intersection (not in FMS database) N4600.00 W00845.00 from the kabig fix. Within 30 mi of sivir brest inquired if we had received the oceanic clearance from shanwick. We responded that we had not. One pilot was monitoring HF while the copilot (PF the aircraft) was monitoring ATC. Brest requested holding at 008W. The FMS displayed sivir as 46N 008W, which was mistaken as the 008W point and entered as the holding fix. As we approached the sivir point brest notified the aircraft had passed the 008W hold point. Aircraft was already in a right turn and was returning back to the 46N 008W point. While on the way back to the 008W point shanwick gave the flight clearance to the sivir point. No traffic conflict was reported by ATC or TCASII.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CLRNC CONFUSION WITH FOREIGN CTLR. FLC DIRECTED BY CTLR TO 008W TO HOLD. FLC THOUGHT THE SIVIR AT 46N 008W WAS THE POINT, BUT IT WASN'T. CTLR INTERVENED WHEN THEY HAD PASSED THE HOLDING FIX POINT AND FLC RETURNED TO CLRED FIX, BUT THEN, BEFORE REACHING IT, WERE CLRED ON RTE.
Narrative: DURING CRUISE FLT THROUGH BREST CTL AIRSPACE THERE WAS A DELAY IN RECEIVING OCEANIC CLRNC. BREST HAD CLRED THE FLT TO THE SIVIR INTXN (NOT IN FMS DATABASE) N4600.00 W00845.00 FROM THE KABIG FIX. WITHIN 30 MI OF SIVIR BREST INQUIRED IF WE HAD RECEIVED THE OCEANIC CLRNC FROM SHANWICK. WE RESPONDED THAT WE HAD NOT. ONE PLT WAS MONITORING HF WHILE THE COPLT (PF THE ACFT) WAS MONITORING ATC. BREST REQUESTED HOLDING AT 008W. THE FMS DISPLAYED SIVIR AS 46N 008W, WHICH WAS MISTAKEN AS THE 008W POINT AND ENTERED AS THE HOLDING FIX. AS WE APCHED THE SIVIR POINT BREST NOTIFIED THE ACFT HAD PASSED THE 008W HOLD POINT. ACFT WAS ALREADY IN A R TURN AND WAS RETURNING BACK TO THE 46N 008W POINT. WHILE ON THE WAY BACK TO THE 008W POINT SHANWICK GAVE THE FLT CLRNC TO THE SIVIR POINT. NO TFC CONFLICT WAS RPTED BY ATC OR TCASII.
