Narrative:

Flying from lamoni, ia, to mkc (north to south), I checked with ZKC to see that the transponder was squawking proper altitude. I contacted mkc tower with ATIS, and was cleared for a straight-in approach to runway 19, to follow a mooney on downwind. Had difficulty locating the mooney. After locating, had difficulty relocating. This really lengthened the cycle time on my scan. The second time, the mooney was just short of final and off to the right, and over the river I thought about going around. I knew I was behind in my approach (hadn't done the checklist, and was rushing the landing). The tower had cleared me to land, but I should have gone around and asked permission for a go around. Made slight s-turn to reduce gain on mooney, checked speed at 100 KTS. I thought I lowered the flaps. There was no gear warning horn, pulled power for flair on final. Noticed I was using too much runway (no gear, no flaps). Propeller struck, wings level, set it down smoothly. Smell of smoke in cabin. Turned off main switch and exited aircraft. Landed short of first turnoff at mkc.

Title: BE35 PLT LANDS GEAR AND FLAPS UP.

Narrative: FLYING FROM LAMONI, IA, TO MKC (N TO S), I CHKED WITH ZKC TO SEE THAT THE XPONDER WAS SQUAWKING PROPER ALT. I CONTACTED MKC TWR WITH ATIS, AND WAS CLRED FOR A STRAIGHT-IN APCH TO RWY 19, TO FOLLOW A MOONEY ON DOWNWIND. HAD DIFFICULTY LOCATING THE MOONEY. AFTER LOCATING, HAD DIFFICULTY RELOCATING. THIS REALLY LENGTHENED THE CYCLE TIME ON MY SCAN. THE SECOND TIME, THE MOONEY WAS JUST SHORT OF FINAL AND OFF TO THE R, AND OVER THE RIVER I THOUGHT ABOUT GOING AROUND. I KNEW I WAS BEHIND IN MY APCH (HADN'T DONE THE CHKLIST, AND WAS RUSHING THE LNDG). THE TWR HAD CLRED ME TO LAND, BUT I SHOULD HAVE GONE AROUND AND ASKED PERMISSION FOR A GAR. MADE SLIGHT S-TURN TO REDUCE GAIN ON MOONEY, CHKED SPD AT 100 KTS. I THOUGHT I LOWERED THE FLAPS. THERE WAS NO GEAR WARNING HORN, PULLED PWR FOR FLAIR ON FINAL. NOTICED I WAS USING TOO MUCH RWY (NO GEAR, NO FLAPS). PROP STRUCK, WINGS LEVEL, SET IT DOWN SMOOTHLY. SMELL OF SMOKE IN CABIN. TURNED OFF MAIN SWITCH AND EXITED ACFT. LANDED SHORT OF FIRST TURNOFF AT MKC.
