Narrative:
ATC facility: las tower. Location: las. Just after lift-off at las, the tail compartment high light illuminated. The 3 immediate action items were completed. The light went out 20-30 seconds later. We decided to return to las. An emergency was declared and the equipment was requested to meet us. Emergency checklist was completed for this problem. An overweight landing was completed at las. Landing weight was 135700 pounds with an extremely smooth touchdown performed by first officer. Upon exiting the runway I had the las emergency equipment check for any problems in the rear section of the aircraft. None were found and we returned to the gate and the passenger were deplaned.
