Narrative:

Departed runway 8R, first officer flying. He did not get an identify at the MM so he did not turn to 070 degrees as instructed before takeoff. He did not hear or see the MM identify. We started the turn late. The controller asked why we did not make the turn. I replied we were in the turn. He told us to turn to 050 degrees. There was departing traffic on runway 9. I should have been more aggressive. I thought the first officer would start the turn, he did not. I should have told ATC no identify on the middle marker. Anyway, we made a late turn. The controller seemed irritated. Supplemental information from acn 347039: we did not see nor hear indication of MM passage. I should have turned at 1500 ft AGL in anticipation of the marker.
