Narrative:

During takeoff, lost system 'a' hydraulic system on B727 after gear retraction. Coordinated with ATC for holding area and fuel dumping. Had to maneuver from 3000 ft to 4000 ft to avoid traffic during fuel dumping. After fuel dumping and checklist procedures, returned to iah. Flaps remained at 15 percent for landing and landing gear extended using alternate system.

Narrative: DURING TKOF, LOST SYS 'A' HYD SYS ON B727 AFTER GEAR RETRACTION. COORDINATED WITH ATC FOR HOLDING AREA AND FUEL DUMPING. HAD TO MANEUVER FROM 3000 FT TO 4000 FT TO AVOID TFC DURING FUEL DUMPING. AFTER FUEL DUMPING AND CHKLIST PROCS, RETURNED TO IAH. FLAPS REMAINED AT 15 PERCENT FOR LNDG AND LNDG GEAR EXTENDED USING ALTERNATE SYS.
