Narrative:
No landing clearance, running of checklists, and congestion on tower frequency. Supplemental information from acn 353149: trying to keep the speed up for following traffic, we passed the OM and were trying to configure aircraft for landing, and did not switch to local controller until we were close to runway. At that point first officer did not have a chance to acknowledge landing clearance . I should have asked sooner if we were cleared to land and kept a better eye on his tasks.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATR-72 FLC LANDS WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC. UNAUTH LNDG.
Narrative: NO LNDG CLRNC, RUNNING OF CHKLISTS, AND CONGESTION ON TWR FREQ. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 353149: TRYING TO KEEP THE SPD UP FOR FOLLOWING TFC, WE PASSED THE OM AND WERE TRYING TO CONFIGURE ACFT FOR LNDG, AND DID NOT SWITCH TO LCL CTLR UNTIL WE WERE CLOSE TO RWY. AT THAT POINT FO DID NOT HAVE A CHANCE TO ACKNOWLEDGE LNDG CLRNC . I SHOULD HAVE ASKED SOONER IF WE WERE CLRED TO LAND AND KEPT A BETTER EYE ON HIS TASKS.
