Narrative:
Upon extension of flaps to 5 degrees, the flap transit light on forward instrument panel came on. Complied with procedure in pilot's manual and landed on runway 18R in clt. Requested long runway 18R and ATC declared emergency after we notified them of abnormal condition.

Title: FLC OF A B737-300 LANDED WITH ONLY PARTIAL FLAP AND EMER EQUIP STANDING BY SINCE THE FLAP TRANSIT LIGHT CAME ON WHEN FLAPS WERE SET AT ONLY 5 DEGS. A SUCCESSFUL, AND UNEVENTFUL LNDG WAS SUBSEQUENTLY MADE.
