Narrative:
While en route to bos, our #2 communication failed. We spoke with our dispatch and maintenance who requested that we return back to iad. We informed ATC and were given a right turn to the south and a descent to 16000 ft from FL190. While in the descent and turn, we were discussing our crew duties and the communication failure and did not notice the descent through 16000 ft. ATC then queried us on our altitude but then said it was 'ok' and not a problem and cleared us to 10000 ft.
