Narrative:
Upon leveling at FL280, ZNY advised our mode C showed FL285. Our altimeters were left on lga setting of 29.29 instead of 29.92. Center advised deviation caused no conflict. In addition to similar settings, a lengthy level off at 17000 ft contributed to this lack of checklist discipline. First officer was flying.
