Narrative:
Departed small private field 25 mi south of vih after 2 weeks for maintenance. Departed private strip before ground thawed, snow operations. Destination was home base of vih. Approximately 5 mi south of vih I contacted unicom on 123.0 and they notified me the airport was closed due to snow and ice. This is a large airport and chances were if a problem existed here there wouldn't be a smaller airport nearby that was better. Under these conditions I had no choice, (fuel only for another 30 mins) but to land. The airport was in very good condition and the NOTAM was lifted shortly after my arrival. My violation was not checking NOTAMS and landed on an airport notamed closed. Since the airport management is from a non flying community I feel the airport was unjustly notamed closed!
