Narrative:
I took off from dpa at xxam. ATIS reported measured ceiling 1300 overcast 5 mi fog. Flew to IC5 and landed full stop. Flew to C09. Haze had become worse. Arrived at uncontrolled field -- morris C09 -- announced to traffic on CTAF 122.8 in pattern. Landed near numbers runway 36. After touchdown saw obstruction well down runway. Upon closer approach saw that it was an orange plastic snow fencing 'X' weighted down on runway with concrete blocks indicating a closed runway. Also, at that time, I saw vehicles on the left edge of the runway doing some kind of construction. I came to a stop well before the 'X,' maneuvered around it to the right side of runway and took off. There was no air traffic. My son was leaving for college in a few days and I wanted to fly with him. Given the reduced visibility when I arrived at morris, I should have returned to dpa and not landed. A pass over the airport to familiarize myself with the field might have let me see the 'X.' I made a poor judgement call in landing and taking off from C09.

Title: ERROR ADMITTED BY PVT PLT IN PERFORMING OPS ON A CLOSED RWY AT A NON TWR ARPT. UNAUTH LNDG TAXI LNDG.
Narrative: I TOOK OFF FROM DPA AT XXAM. ATIS RPTED MEASURED CEILING 1300 OVCST 5 MI FOG. FLEW TO IC5 AND LANDED FULL STOP. FLEW TO C09. HAZE HAD BECOME WORSE. ARRIVED AT UNCTLED FIELD -- MORRIS C09 -- ANNOUNCED TO TFC ON CTAF 122.8 IN PATTERN. LANDED NEAR NUMBERS RWY 36. AFTER TOUCHDOWN SAW OBSTRUCTION WELL DOWN RWY. UPON CLOSER APCH SAW THAT IT WAS AN ORANGE PLASTIC SNOW FENCING 'X' WEIGHTED DOWN ON RWY WITH CONCRETE BLOCKS INDICATING A CLOSED RWY. ALSO, AT THAT TIME, I SAW VEHICLES ON THE L EDGE OF THE RWY DOING SOME KIND OF CONSTRUCTION. I CAME TO A STOP WELL BEFORE THE 'X,' MANEUVERED AROUND IT TO THE R SIDE OF RWY AND TOOK OFF. THERE WAS NO AIR TFC. MY SON WAS LEAVING FOR COLLEGE IN A FEW DAYS AND I WANTED TO FLY WITH HIM. GIVEN THE REDUCED VISIBILITY WHEN I ARRIVED AT MORRIS, I SHOULD HAVE RETURNED TO DPA AND NOT LANDED. A PASS OVER THE ARPT TO FAMILIARIZE MYSELF WITH THE FIELD MIGHT HAVE LET ME SEE THE 'X.' I MADE A POOR JUDGEMENT CALL IN LNDG AND TAKING OFF FROM C09.
