Narrative:
On feb/xx/97, I installed a new N1 tachometer generator on #2 engine of a B727 and a N1 cockpit gauge due to N1 indication sticking. When I went to return the removed tachometer generator to stock I realized the new gasket was stuck inside the dust cover and was not installed with the new tachometer generator. I informed line maintenance as soon as I discovered my error. There was no loss of engine oil and the problem was corrected when the aircraft arrived at its destination. I feel that self imposed time pressures were the major contributing factor by trying to make the trip delay as short as possible
