Narrative:
Lost 'a' system hydraulic fluid upon gear retraction, followed the company's checklist and operating procedures. Began diversion to mke. Took time to review alternate gear and flap extension procedures, brief flight attendants and passenger, declared emergency with ATC, landed at mke. Able to exit runway then await tow to gate due nosewheel steering inoperative.

Narrative: LOST 'A' SYS HYD FLUID UPON GEAR RETRACTION, FOLLOWED THE COMPANY'S CHKLIST AND OPERATING PROCS. BEGAN DIVERSION TO MKE. TOOK TIME TO REVIEW ALTERNATE GEAR AND FLAP EXTENSION PROCS, BRIEF FLT ATTENDANTS AND PAX, DECLARED EMER WITH ATC, LANDED AT MKE. ABLE TO EXIT RWY THEN AWAIT TOW TO GATE DUE NOSEWHEEL STEERING INOP.
