Narrative:
Shortly after departure we were notified by our operations that we had a weight problem. I quickly realized I had made an addition error and we departed 400 pounds over maximum takeoff weight. On the saab there are 2 zones for cargo -- C1 and C2. We had received cargo weights and I recorded them in their respective zones properly. Then additional passenger and cargo arrived. The rampers informed us to add 4 bags to C1. I multiplied 4 times 23.5 (bag weight) and added that to C1. At this point I was distraction by another task -- starting the #1 engine. I returned to my calculator and recorded that number onto the load manifest. I missed adding the C2 cargo which was 400 pounds. In my mind I had added 2 numbers for the cargo weight. I informed the captain of my error and calculated what the trip's fuel burn needed to be to land under maximum landing weight. We took a longer routing to insure we met the required fuel burn.
