Narrative:

ATC clearance was to ord via loop 9. When cleared into position was told to maintain visual on brasilia taking off ahead of us. When cleared for takeoff brasilia was still on runway. We were told to maintain visual. After takeoff given altitude change from 2000 ft to 3000 ft and change to socal departure. Was just past the smo 160 degree radial when socal gave us a turn to 220 degrees and asked our heading. We responded turning from 250 degrees to 220 degrees. Late making turn due to maintaining a visual on another aircraft, while accepting an altitude change. While leveling a high performance aircraft at 3000 ft and accepting a frequency change is a busy time, recommend some relief on a SID if maintaining visual is required, or not accepting a VMC with IMC maneuver.

Title: LGT WAS LATE MAKING TURN REQUIRED BY SID. FLC WAS BUSY KEEPING TRACK OF ANOTHER ACFT THEY WERE TO KEEP VISUAL SEPARATION FROM.
