Narrative:
This flight was to be a routine cross country flight. Upon looking over the route of flight, the student saw the parachute symbol and asked for any NOTAMS for the time we would be in the area. Millville FSS did not advise any. Off we went. Our route was from cdw to pou and return. Upon reaching our destination, we landed and departed for home. As we reached the point of the parachute symbol, the student pointed out 3 parachutists floating by the right wingtip. I could see there was not going to be any conflict, so no evasive action was taken. What did cause a lot of concern to the student and me was a military army helicopter in our 4 O'clock position much less than 500 ft away. After a period of time the helicopter peeled off and left. While no NOTAMS were given for this area, if we had listened to an ATC frequency we might have heard an advisory for parachute jumping in this area.
