Narrative:
Taxiing south, approaching the lead in line to gate at chicago's O'hare airport we (both the first officer and I) verified that the gate area was clear of all obstacles and vehicles. After making the turn onto the gate toward the accupark system the ground mechanic signaled us to stop immediately. A few seconds later he signaled us to shut down the engine. A few moments later we were informed that a baggage cart had run into our right engine causing damage to the engine cowl.
