Narrative:
Prior to departing on a local VFR flight from orl to ism, I contacted FSS for a local WX briefing and also specifically requested 'any and all' NOTAMS for kissimmee. I was told there were no NOTAMS. I checked the currency of my orl/tpa class B airspace chart and was valid through sep/xx/97. I contacted the published unicom frequency on chart and did not get a response. Continuing to broadcast my position, I flew over kissimmee airport at 1500 ft AGL to observe other traffic and to determine active runway. Upon landing on runway 15 at kissimmee a controller advised me on the unicom frequency that kissimmee airport now has an active tower. I was also informed that they had been having troubles with their squelch on unicom frequency, so they turned it off. I was advised of new ground and tower frequencys, and no traffic issues or conflicts existed.

Title: PA28-161 ACFT CHKED NOTAMS FOR ARPT BUT AFTER LNDG WAS CONTACTED BY TWR CTLR INFORMING RPTR THAT THE ARPT NOW HAD AN ACTIVE TWR. UNICOM HAD BEEN TURNED OFF.
Narrative: PRIOR TO DEPARTING ON A LCL VFR FLT FROM ORL TO ISM, I CONTACTED FSS FOR A LCL WX BRIEFING AND ALSO SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED 'ANY AND ALL' NOTAMS FOR KISSIMMEE. I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO NOTAMS. I CHKED THE CURRENCY OF MY ORL/TPA CLASS B AIRSPACE CHART AND WAS VALID THROUGH SEP/XX/97. I CONTACTED THE PUBLISHED UNICOM FREQ ON CHART AND DID NOT GET A RESPONSE. CONTINUING TO BROADCAST MY POS, I FLEW OVER KISSIMMEE ARPT AT 1500 FT AGL TO OBSERVE OTHER TFC AND TO DETERMINE ACTIVE RWY. UPON LNDG ON RWY 15 AT KISSIMMEE A CTLR ADVISED ME ON THE UNICOM FREQ THAT KISSIMMEE ARPT NOW HAS AN ACTIVE TWR. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THEY HAD BEEN HAVING TROUBLES WITH THEIR SQUELCH ON UNICOM FREQ, SO THEY TURNED IT OFF. I WAS ADVISED OF NEW GND AND TWR FREQS, AND NO TFC ISSUES OR CONFLICTS EXISTED.
