Narrative:
I am an inspector for an air carrier and around mar/97 was assigned to a new area which does non destructive testing to aircraft and engine parts. I was given on job training by several other inspectors and during this time (and after training completed) was instructed to stamp off work/documents I had inspected. When I asked my trainer, lead inspector, and supervisor about formal classroom training requirements, I was told none were required and I was qualified (which showed in training and qualification records). I continued performing magnetic particle and fluorescent penetrant non destructive testing inspections through approximately jul-aug/97 and then moved to a new area. I have since learned that I may have been misled and in fact per air carrier operating procedures certain formal classroom training was required. In short, I feel I may not have been adequately trained and equipped with all the knowledge necessary to accomplish the inspections properly.

Narrative: I AM AN INSPECTOR FOR AN ACR AND AROUND MAR/97 WAS ASSIGNED TO A NEW AREA WHICH DOES NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING TO ACFT AND ENG PARTS. I WAS GIVEN ON JOB TRAINING BY SEVERAL OTHER INSPECTORS AND DURING THIS TIME (AND AFTER TRAINING COMPLETED) WAS INSTRUCTED TO STAMP OFF WORK/DOCUMENTS I HAD INSPECTED. WHEN I ASKED MY TRAINER, LEAD INSPECTOR, AND SUPVR ABOUT FORMAL CLASSROOM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS, I WAS TOLD NONE WERE REQUIRED AND I WAS QUALIFIED (WHICH SHOWED IN TRAINING AND QUALIFICATION RECORDS). I CONTINUED PERFORMING MAGNETIC PARTICLE AND FLUORESCENT PENETRANT NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING INSPECTIONS THROUGH APPROX JUL-AUG/97 AND THEN MOVED TO A NEW AREA. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT I MAY HAVE BEEN MISLED AND IN FACT PER ACR OPERATING PROCS CERTAIN FORMAL CLASSROOM TRAINING WAS REQUIRED. IN SHORT, I FEEL I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY TRAINED AND EQUIPPED WITH ALL THE KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY TO ACCOMPLISH THE INSPECTIONS PROPERLY.
