Narrative:
Deferred #1 engine fire detection 'B' loop, got #1 engine fire warning (bells, aurals, lights, etc) and complied with engine shutdown procedures. In my heart I knew it was a faulty indication but procedures dictated a shutdown and declaring an emergency. Landed at nearest suitable airport which was atl after declaring an emergency. Uneventful landing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN MD88 SHUT DOWN THE #1 ENG AND DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO AN ENG FIRE WARNING. THE FLC SUSPECTED THAT IT WAS A FALSE WARNING SINCE THE 'B' FIRE DETECTION LOOP HAD BEEN DEFERRED PRIOR TO FLT.
Narrative: DEFERRED #1 ENG FIRE DETECTION 'B' LOOP, GOT #1 ENG FIRE WARNING (BELLS, AURALS, LIGHTS, ETC) AND COMPLIED WITH ENG SHUTDOWN PROCS. IN MY HEART I KNEW IT WAS A FAULTY INDICATION BUT PROCS DICTATED A SHUTDOWN AND DECLARING AN EMER. LANDED AT NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT WHICH WAS ATL AFTER DECLARING AN EMER. UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
